A Chemical Analysis of Sol Duc Hot Spring Water
Per Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort, 2022.
Silica- 59.80 ppm- Found in nature in quartz, sand, and many living organisms.
Chlorine- 4.00 ppm- Abundant in nature as a salt and necessary to most forms of life, including humans.
Sulfur Dioxide- 12.50 ppm- A toxic gas with a pungent smell, it is released naturally by volcanic activity.
Iron and Aluminum- 0.24 ppm- Iron is the most common element inside Earth and Aluminum is the most common metal in Earth’s crust.
Bicarbonate- 83.70 ppm- Serves a crucial biochemical role in the pH buffering system of many living things.
Calcium- 1.10 ppm- Common substance found in rocks as the chemicals calcite and aragonite, most notably limestone.
Nitrate- 0.04 ppm- nitrates are the most water soluble of all salts and play an important role in the nitrogen cycle.
Magnesium- 0.01 ppm- obtained primarily from electrolysis of magnesium salts from brine.
Phosphoric Acid- 0.60 ppm- One of the top 14 natural trace elements found in seawater and is highly nutritious for algae.
Barium- trace- Soft, silvery, metallic, and alkaline metal. Because of its high chemical reactivity, Barium is never found in nature as a free element.
Metaboric Acid- 1.80 ppm- A white, cubic, crystalline solid that is only slightly soluble in water.
Strontium- trace- An alkaline metal that is soft, silvery, and highly reactive.
Sodium- 2.60 ppm- A soft, silvery-white, highly reactive metal. An essential element for all animal life and some plant life too.
Potassium- trace- Naturally occurs only in ionic salts. Found dissolved in sea water and is part of many minerals.
Ammonium- 1.03 ppm- A waste product from metabolism in animals and an important source of nitrogen for many plant species.
