Autumn in Yosemite
Yosemite’s Fall Foliage Sites
Yosemite Valley - averaging around 4,000 ft in elevation, you won’t see much foliage color change until end of October. This area usually peaks during the first weeks of November.
Glacier Point - at around 7,000 ft in elevation, you’ll see colors change up here before the Valley Floor. Colors here start to change around the beginning to middle of October.
Tioga Pass - with elevations between 6,000 - 9,900 ft and hikes that take you even higher, you will experience autumn color changes here first, beginning in October. Tioga Pass closes seasonally, usually after the season’s first major snowfall, which varies each year.
Weather
Fall weather in Yosemite can vary greatly. Temperatures can range anywhere from 20-60 degrees F, with even greater variances possible.
Autumn also allows for the possibility of early-season snow, so check the forecast before heading out and make sure to have all the proper gear.
Chains may be required if a snow storm passes through. Always be sure to carry chains (even if you have AWD/4WD).

Fire Season
Additional conditions to beware of in autumn are wildfires and smoke.
Wildfires in California are deadly, fast-moving, and can ignite in an instant. This is something to always keep in mind during this time of year. Be prepared and have a plan.
